The purpose of this IPRO project is to develop a better understanding about ridership along the Rock Island Metra line that extends from Chicago to Joliet with a stop at 35th Street. The IPRO team will review ridership trends associated with communities along the Rock Island line, as well as the historical and anticipated development of the communities themselves. This will lead to insights that can spark creative concepts to improve ridership in significant ways. It is anticipated that the IPRO team will have the opportunity to meet with Metra staff and ride the Metra line as-needed in order to inspire thinking about this challenging project. Students from business, psychology, political science and social science have important roles to play in this IPRO project. Students from various other fields of engineering, the sciences, applied technology, etc. are also welcome, as are “southsiders” who ride the rails or live in communities along the Rock Island line.
