Bio

For a quarter century Dan led the user-research discipline for account teams at Doblin Group, the innovation strategy practice of Deloitte. His activities included helping clients develop actionable, proprietary and deep customer insights to inform innovation strategy. He finds ways to connect what is desirable from a research point of view with what is possible from a technology point of view. Dan was responsible for organizing the field research strategies and helping clients and colleagues to understand how to get the most out of the latest qualitative research methods and qualitative theory. He has worked in Consumer products, Financial services, Food and Beverage, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Retail, Telecommunications, and Travel industries. Dan led other researchers in improving their photography talents for user research, documentation, marketing and product photography.

Dan is committed to design education. As an alumnus and adjunct faculty of the Institute of Design, he has returned to teach classes in Observing Users, Design Planning and Photography for Research and Design. Dan is also a Lead Instructor for IIT’s Interprofessional Program where he helps IIT’s undergraduates build a bridge from their academic experiences to their future careers. Dan has also co-instructed Design Innovation classes at the Kellogg Business School, and acted as Design Mentor at Northwestern University Health Hacks.

What I love about IPRO

My favorite part of teaching in the the IPRO Program is helping students realize their individual and collective power when learning to work effectively in a team setting. Often students enter the program as a young adult/student and leave the program with greatly enhanced self-confidence and better prepared for the professional world.
