Developer John Edel and student collaborators at the Illinois Institute of Technology are working on a customized system for converting waste into fertilizer and a means of power generation. If, as an engineer, you can’t recognize contributions from other people with different specialties, then you can’t really work productively with a team. Through IPROs, students learn to figure out things outside of their major because they have to. This means later on in life, they won’t have to confront their employer and say, ‘I haven’t learned this’ or ‘this isn’t part of my job description.’
