Individual Reports

 Sample Individual Final Report

Individual Reports are an optional assignment for IPRO courses. These assignments provide a special focus on the individual student’s personal goals, achievements, and opinions about their projects.

Individual Reports are two written assignments that are completed once near the beginning of the semester and once at the end of the semester. They can include questions about:

  • the problem students are working on
  • a student’s individual goals and accomplishments
  • ethical issues that might arise from that particular IPRO project
  • alternative ways of thinking about the problem
  • alternative approaches to solving the problem
  • communication and teamwork within the IPRO team
  • the IPRO experience in general
  • why the problem matters

These reports require students to take personal accountability for what happens on the team. They ask students to put into words what problems or needs their project is addressing and why their efforts matter in a broader sense. This can be good practice for students in explaining their projects, which teams will have to do on IPRO Day.

Individual Reports also ask students to identify their own, unique contributions to the project, which can be very useful information for faculty advisors and can help identify students who need to focus more on determining where they fit into the team. The reports also provide two additional grades that can help faculty advisors quantitatively evaluate individual student performance.

Faculty advisors determine the due dates for the two Individual Reports. Suggested due dates are one week after submitting the Project Plan and one week after IPRO Day. The former is referred to as the Individual Plan Report, and the latter as the Individual Final Report. These due dates are suggestions only and can be customized as needed by the faculty advisor.
